HEHE

and i saw this AWESOME INSPIRING BEAUTIFUL story on jeanette's blog
so i HAD to post it here, so i will have it forever

In a verdant field, amidst a patch of dew-sodden clover, a single daisy grew. Her radiant face was eagerly turned towards the sun, held up by a slender green stem that was sturdier than it appeared. Delicate white petals shone like a halo around the warm yellow centre, tiny yet exquisite. Hers was a simple beauty, neither flamboyant like the tulips, nor sophisticated by the roses. She was all charming grace and meek purity, with a blithe nature that was very endearing.
But few people noticed the little flower blooming in the field, and fewer still admired the little flower, unadorned as she was by bright hues and fanciful patterns. The daisy did not lament over her lack of attention nor fret over her pretty leaves, but did bask contentedly in the summer sunlight, revelling in the wonders of life.
"The sun shines on me and the wind sings around me. How richly am I blessed!" she mused
One day, a sparrow landed before her, foraging in the clover patch for food. His speckled plumage was just like the ground beneath him and his voice was as soft as his coat was drab. He hopped agilely to and fro, pecking at the earth, till he noticed the smiling daisy.
"What are you so happy about, little daisy?" he asked, turning a beady eye on her.
The daisy nodded buoyantly though whether it was by her will or by that of the lively breeze he could not tell." What can one be unhappy about?" she inquired in turn. "The sun's beams embrace me and give me warmth. i gaze all day at the cerulean skies and the soft green of the field. The earth is sweet and the wind sings so prettily. How can bliss ever cease when the earth is so abound with such beauty?"
The sparrow listened to the daisy's delight in wonder, and looked around him as if he were new to the world. Indeed, it was a glorious day- the kind that made one think of spring, of gamboling in the sun, of singing out loud for all the world to hear. The sparrow looked, with fresh eyes, at the familiar yet extraordinary landscape. He saw the clouds in all their incandescent splendour floating in the bright heavens and heard the mellifluent cheeps and trills of his own kind. The air was redolent with the sweet refreshing scent of the daisy and dewdrops rested charmingly on the clover, glistening and perfect. And yet it was a day like any other, the same sky, the same field.
The world is magnificent, he thought in awe, but i would never have realised it. How blind I was! The daisy's words had changed his perception, honed his sight. And he spoke to the daisy with new respect. "Indeed, you have opened my eyes. So busy I was, ever searching for food and shelter, I have not seen...all these."
"Maybe it is that.." the daisy began.
Just then, a crow dropped down beside the two, dwarfing them. He was a dull black, from sharp beak to scaly claws. "Any food here?" He asked brusquely.
"Hush!" The Sparrow cried. "she was talking!"
"Good day, neighbour," the daisy continued. "Maybe it is that a plant is rooted in the earth and need not wander the sun and stars away in search of sustenance that we see more." The daisy's voice was childlike and clear, her tone intense. "I have looked upon this place all the days of my short life and will till I die. I can never tire of the sights, so frequently does the Earth change. The brilliant sunlight or the serene shimmer of the stars, the nebulous dazzle or drizzles or the damp, cleansed feel of the grass after rain, I love them all.''
The fervour in the daisy's speech surprised the sparrow, and her vivacity shamed him. How alive she is, he thought, and what sincerity. He had never met anyone like her, so able to see the good in everything and beauty in all situations.
"Humph!" the crow croaked in derision. "what drivel! The world is a mud pit and only fools admire the skies and grasses. All is dirt and of no value. I have better things to do with my life than daydreaming. What would a daisy know of the world? I bet you won't be so infatuated with the world if you had to go around grubbing for food everyday and get chased off my humans wherever you go."
The sparrw was angry at the crow for speaking thus, and yet the crow's words filled him with despair. Isn't it true? He thought, feeling that his world had grown dark. Life was toil and all the wonder of the world was worthless. Yet the sparrow still looked at the daisy, hoping, hoping, that she would deny his words.
The daisy drew up straight and exclaimed, filled with righteous anger. "Fool, am i? I'm just a daisy and must stay here all my days, but if i had your wings I would fly everywhere and see everything instead of complaining and picking quarrels with everyone. I might have to look for food and struggle for my life but i would still appreciate the earth and her beauty. For what good is living when one only works, feeds and feels bitter about it all day? You live for staying alive. I live for loving life. And tell me, who's happier?"
The crow did not deign to reply but crowed sardonically and flew off.
The sparrow chirped joyfully. The daisy is right, he thought. How foolish I am to believe the crow even after I've seen for myself the splendid sights. There is more to life than what the crow says.
"Thanks for showing me the world, daisy," he said.
"No," she objected. " I did not show you. I merely reminded you. As the crow said, your kind must labour for life's necessities. In your haste you have forgotten to feel. You look, but do not see, you hear, but did not listen. But though your mind has forgotten, your heart remembers. That is why I prompted you to look up, you saw the phenomenon in the ordinary. Your heart leaps with joy to rediscover the little miracles your mind took for granted. Besides, my words did no justice to these marvels. Some things do not need to be explained, like the magic of the rainbow or the rapture of a song. Heed your heart, it knows."
At that moment, a young girl came skipping up the field, her glossy locks swinging back and forth with the rhythm of her stride. She stopped by the little daisy, making the sparrow jump to the refuge of an obliging bush in indignantion. "What a pretty flower!" she exclaimed, and gently severed the daisy from the ground.
The sparrow twittered in protest and shock. The daisy was dying. How could one so vividly die like this, so abruptly, at the whim of this artless girl?
The girl twined the daisy in her hair, and her smile was like the sun coming up. The sparrow heard the daisy say faintly, before she skipped away again, "See how happy she is! I die content, knowing my death was not wasted. But my friend, do remember to look up once in a while in your pursuit of life, and recall the joys of the world and the little daisy you once met."
The sparrow then sang his heart out, a song of happiness to let the daisy know he understood. Soon his mate came by and asked, "why are you so happy, my dear?'
And he replied," Because the sky is blue.."
