okay it's rather huge.
but while watching this i was seriously horrified. we're sending her out to the miss universe peagant??? okay, a lot of singaporeans DO speak like that, sadly, but i'm pretty sure there were a lot of other pretty(er) contestents who can speak better english right!!
i'm not directing this against her personally(though i think she should try and improve her english before she goes to africa, for her own sake), but at the judges of the miss singapore. i mean, come on. are they deaf?
the newspaper interviewed someone(can't rmb who) and she said that the peagant is about beauty, not brains, so her english doesn't matter. what rubbish! brains do matter you know! and i thought they do care about brains in the peagant. which is why they have that section where they ask some question and the contestants have to answer on the spot. (right? i haven't watched it in ages)
okay maybe her standard of english doesn't reflect her intellect, but can you imagine when she goes for miss universe, and speaks in that horrendous english, what the world will think???
she's our country's ambassador, and most people will judge the rest of singapore according to her. they'll walk away thinking that all singaporeans speak like her. though i personally haven't met anyone who speaks like her.
but i think she IS trying to make an effort to speak properly. and i do applaude her for her courage to try(regardless of her english). so ris low, if by some miracle you read this, jy jy. improve your english and do us proud.
don't have to win lah, just put up a good fight.
another thing that makes me angry!!! the newspaper had a section on how almost everyone speaks like her, and then they interviewed another goon who said
"students don't love reading as much as they used to. books, newspapers, even online newspapers? forget it. (...something about instant messaging and texting being our life now...)"
WA LAO. her statement is so...so...urgh!! they way she says it gives me the impression that she thinks each and EVERY single student in singapore is like that. excuse me, i happen to love reading. i know a lot of people who love reading. make your sentence more specific. like "a lot of students" or "some students". "Students" means "all students".
annoying. AND RIGHT. some people also commented that if we speak singlish, it means our english is bad. i speak singlish and my english isn't bad(it's not FANTASTIC, but it's not bad.) in fact, again, i know a plentiful lot of people who speak singlish, but in are capable of perfectly good english.
why i speak singlish.
it's fun. you can express yourself better in some occasions. it's understood by probably 97% of singapore's population. it's easy to speak. i love it. it's very singaporean.

well anyway have to bring tofu to the vet. she sprained her leg i think. brought her downstairs to play and she got frightened by something and got entangled in her leash. brought her down before and nothing happened leh!! but she's still eating and drinking right, and still very active, though we're limiting her out-of-cage time. but she limps ):
